Winter's Day Walk

Winter's back today and gave us another couple of inches of snow. I decided to get out and enjoy the day regardless of the cold weather. I took my dog Jack for a walk down one of the many bike and running trails the DC area has to offer. For today's outing I chose to wear my teal wool coat. This is my go to coat and is great for many reasons. First, I love the color. It's not the typical black wool coat that one can see almost everywhere. It's nice to see a pop of color in the sea of black winter coats. Also, the design is unique. It cuts in at the waist and then flares out. This gives the coat nice movement and makes it that much less ordinary. Finally, it's warm! If you are looking for a coat similar to mine, Nordstrom's carries two you might be interested in, Via Spiga and Guess.

Just a Little Distressed

Today I'm wearing one of my favorite pair of jeans, Gap's 1969 destructed skinny jean. I've had these jeans for just over a year and my love for them has never waned. Their fit is amazing while still comfortable. Another positive is they've held their shape. Unlike much other denim, they haven't stretched out. While distressed denim is always great with t-shirts, it looks equally as good with a dressier blouse, jacket, or sweater. There are endless possible styles. If your looking to find your own distressed denim, Gap has a great pair at a moderate price.

Everyone Needs a Little Sunshine

Today was the most beautiful day of the season thus far! The sun was out as well as everyone else! On days like today, I love to wear bright colored accessories. Wether I'm out running errands or sightseeing in DC, Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac in marigold is the perfect bag. Rebecca Minkoff is one of my favorite mid-range designers, who happens to carry some incredible handbags. First, let's talk leather. I love her leather bags! The quality is superb, and it's so incredibly soft. Her bags are available in some of the most diverse and amazing colors, which would suit anyone's needs. The Mini Mac design is also ingenious. It can be worn three different ways, making your day-to-night transitions all the easier. Personally, I love to wear mine as a cross body. Going hands free has never looked so stylish. For a night out to dinner, I prefer to adjust the chain to the shortest possible length for a dressier look. To find your very own Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac Zappos, Nordstroms, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdales all have a great selection.

Ready to "Dress" Up?

The 'Daisy Chain' Lace Shift Minidress by Free People is on my list of must buys for the upcoming season! This lace and crochet dress looks amazing on. It has a nice slight A-line shape that flatters almost any figure and it also comes fully lined. Add a jean jacket and booties to help transition to spring! It comes in two colors, black and my favorite, white! You can find this dress at Nordstrom and South Moon Under.

It's a Moto Day

One of the great things about fashion is it allows me to express myself through my clothes. Some days I want to go boho, while other days I'm looking for a preppier style. Today, I chose to be edgy. One of my favorite pieces of my outfit is my jacket. It's a great vegan leather moto jacket by Free People. The great thing about a vegan leather jacket is the price point. I can choose to spend around $100 versus over $300 for genuine leather. This jacket is such a fun piece! It obviously looks great with jeans and moto boots. However, it looks equally as nice with a more feminine silhouette such as a sundress.

Chambray Fun

It's fun and sometimes terrifying to see trends come around for the second time. Watching a trend come back is usually met with nostalgia or occasional defiance. However, I am pleased to see the chambray shirt in style again. (I remember back in the day when people just called it a denim shirt!) It's been back for a couple of years and I don't think it's going anywhere. It has finally crossed over into classic style. A classic chambray looks great with almost anything. It's easily paired with colored denim or patterned pants. To change it up, pair it with black leggings and brown boots. The fashion options are endless! Today, I chose to pair my chambray with a patterned skater skirt, textured tights, and booties. I added one of my favorite House of Harlow necklaces to complete the look. If you are looking for a chambray, the gap has a couple of styles that should suit any need.

Bright Blue Blazer

Up here in the DC area we are still in the throes of this long and very cold winter. However at this point, I'm tired of sweaters. I'm tired of wearing them and looking at them. I've found a different way to stay warm and still look stylish. Today, I'm wearing my bright blue boyfriend blazer. The bright color reminds me that spring is just around the corner while still keeping me warm on a cold day. I've styled it with a simple black blouse, dark skinny jeans, and black booties. A long necklace and bracelets complete the look. If your looking for a different way to style a boyfriend blazer for spring, it looks great with a white t-shirt, ripped jeans, and gladiator sandals. Add some cute bright jewelry to complete a perfect spring look. A blazer similar to mine can be found on sale at Macy's.

My $35 Dress!

Who says you need to spend a ton of money for a dress? I found this great dress for $35 about a year ago at JCPenny's! We lived in Clovis, NM at the time and needless to say there's not much shopping there. Adding the right accessories can take any dress from drab to fab! Originally, this dress came with a small cloth tie belt and belt loops that were too high for my body type. However, there's an easy fix for those issues. First, I NEVER use the cloth belt that comes with a dress. I think they make the dress look cheap and generic. My solution is to first cut off the belt loops. Then, I use one of my own belts. (A good belt is a smart investment for any wardrobe.) Next, I put the belt on the part body that will flatter me the most. To complete the outfit I wear opaque black tights, booties, and add a cute necklace and bracelets. If you are looking for a similar style dress check out JCPenny

Valentine's Day Pink

Whether it's 4th of July, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, or Valentine's Day, it's fun to dress up for the holidays. That said, I prefer being a bit understated. Since it's Valentine's Day, I chose my dusty rose vegan leather jacket. It doesn't scream "hey I'm a walking Valentine's Day card," but it's still a romantic shade of pink. This great shade of pink also reminds me that Spring is just around the corner. I purchased this jacket 4 years ago at Zara. I was in Georgetown headed for dinner and realized it was colder than I expected. As I passed Zara, I went in to see if I could find a jacket. This impulse buy has proven much more practical and classic than I initially thought. In one weekend, I was able to pair it 3 different ways. The first night I paired it with a basic short dress. The next day, I wore it with skinny jeans, a black blouse and booties. As you can see today, I mixed it up a bit and put it with a patterned tunic, skinny jeans, and gray tall boots. If you're looking for a jacket similar to mine, Forever21 just might have what your looking for! And for $32.80, the price isn't bad either!

It's All About the Details

When searching for a blouse many things factor into our decision on whether or not to buy it. Is it the right color? Does the style suit my body? Etc. I chose my blouse not based on color or style, but the details of the blouse. My blouse, by Free People, is a beautiful mixture of embroidered flowers and lace. It's delicate style is not only interesting to look at but very feminine as well. It's flowy tunic design has stood the test of time and has proven to be a classic style that looks great on any body type. Free People is known for their attention to detail and create some of the most beautiful and unique clothing around. If you are looking for a blouse similar to mine go to freepeople.com.

The Perfect Blouse

Finding the perfect blouse can be a great asset in any woman's wardrobe. I'm happy to say, I've finally found my perfect blouse! It's Eighty Sixty's high low blouse. Unfortunately, it can no longer be found in black. However, South Moon Under still carries it in navy and cream. There are many reasons this blouse has quickly become my go to. First, I've yet to see someone it doesn't look good on! It's v-neck creates a slimming effect, while the diagonal seams along the front of the blouse create movement without looking boxy. The high low seam along the bottom has a nice visual appeal without revealing any midsection. Besides looking great with jeans or pants, don't be afraid to pair it with a skirt. It can easily be tucked in for a completely different look. My only issue with this blouse is it does run a tad large. If your shoulders are narrow I would make sure to size down.

For The Love of Boots

This time of year, I seem to live in my boots--short, tall, black, brown, etc. If there's a style out there, I probably own it or something similar. I love boots! Today I'm wearing my tall cognac boots by Arturo Chiang. The cognac color nicely contrasts with any dark color legging or skinny jean! These tall boots also add sophistication to any outfit. And lets talk about the comfort! These are some of the most comfortable boots I own. Not only can I wear these while I'm standing up at work all day but I can keep wearing them into the evening when I go out. Who says style can't be comfortable? If you're looking to find boots similar to mine, you can find Arturo Chiang at Dillards.com

Style knows No Age

My grandmother is one of the most fashionable ladies I know. AT 89 years old she continues to rock a great outfit. I love her stlye! She's effortless and yet ready for any occasion. Today is no exception. She's put together a great peach leather jacket with a pair of brown slacks. I love how she completes the look by adding a beautiful long gold necklace and earrings. You can find an outfit like hers at Chico's and Stein Mart, or in her words, "Little Neimans."
