Layer Up With A Vest

We've finally begun to thaw out and I was able to spend some time in Georgetown on this gorgeous day. Today, I choose to layer my blouse with Sanctuary's Vegan Leather Rebel Vest. Vegan leather is one the hottest trends this season! Adding a leather vest is a perfect way to stay current with any outfit. Not only does it look great with jeans and just about any top, a leather vest also looks amazing with a form fitting dress. It can easily transition from day to night. Also, for those of us that might be concerned with hiding some of those unwanted pounds around our midsection, a vest is the perfect distraction away from the stomach. When completing your outfit, don't forget to add a great long necklace and some cool bracelets. Sanctuary's Vegan Leather Rebel Vest can currently be found on sale at southmoonunder.com and piperlime.com. Buyer beware, this vest does run large so size down for a better fit.

A Girl's Best Friend

This time of year, a flowy blouse is my best friend. It's feminine and pretty and hides all the extra baggage I've been carrying around since Thanksgiving. Today, I'm wearing Free People's Feather in the Wind top. Layered over a black fitted tank, leggings and booties, this sheer blouse looks great! I also love to pair it with a black fur vest. This amazing top has a great cut that creates movement as I'm walking. The embellishments along the neckline also draw attention up to my face. This top can currently be found on sale at Bloomingdales.com

Not Your Momma's Jean Jacket

Jean jacket's have been around for decades. They gone from a fitted crop to the huge oversized look dated back to the late 1980's. They've also come in just about every wash and color you can imagine. Today, I'm wearing one of my favorite jean jackets. The reason I love this particular jacket, by Free People, is because not only is it comfortable and casual, but it's not something you will see everyone in. It feels unique when I wear it and I get tons of complements on it. This jacket is a cross between the traditional jean material and a cotton jersey hoodie. It looks great with black jeans and a graphic tee as well as workout gear. This particular jacket can still be found at freepeople.com or if you want something slightly dressier go for the white denim and gray jersey found at southmoonunder.com

Cold Day Hat Hair

On days like today, where the temperature is 12 degrees outside, I can only think of ways to stay warm. However, I don't want to sacrifice style for warmth. I love this capsule beanie by freepeople.com. They have tons of colors to choose from and it's a great way to keep your head warm when heading outside. Also, once you head indoors and the coats and scarves come off this beanie still looks great with any casual outfit.

Arm Candy

Can I just tell you how much I love jewelry! Anyone can wear a cute shirt or blouse, but your outfit won't reach the next level without great jewelry. Think of jewelry as the icing on the cake. It helps to convey any look whether it is edgy, classic, tribal, or boho. Chan Luu makes some of my favorite jewelry. I absolutely love their wrap bracelets! It adds a nice touch to help complete almost any outfit. They can also be layered with other bangles and look great with a watch. One of the only problems with Chan Luu is trying to figure out which one to buy. The colors and style seems endless. You can find Chan Luu wrap bracelets at southmoonunder.com and Chanluu.com

Saturday Flannel Day

I don't know about you, but by the time Saturday rolls around I'm ready to toss the nice blouse and fancy shoes.  I prefer to throw on something much more casual and comfortable.  This time of year, most of my weekends usually involve wearing some sort of flannel.  Today, I chose one of my favorites.  This red and blue flannel from gap.com is great!  It's soft and not too thick.  It's perfect to throw on with a scarf and can easily be layered with a sweater or jacket. It also looks great tied up into a knot if you want to define your waste.  To complete the look, add skinny jeans and brown boots.

Skies Are Blue But My Jeans Are Gray

When most of us consider buying denim, we often think of traditional blue or maybe even black. But I've found the perfect denim and it's neither blue nor black; it's gray! I own tons of jeans but my Hudson Nico skinny in gray attract some of the most attention. They're incredibly soft! They definitely stretch and move with your body. In fact they're so soft that I forget I'm wearing them. Also, I love how versatile they can be. Don't be boxed in to thinking you can only wear black with gray. While black does look amazing, so do colors. In the fall, I love pairing gray with burgundy or plum. It also looks great with navy. In the spring, when I'm not ready to pull out my white denim, I'm pairing it with a sunshine yellow, turquoise, and coral. Buyer Beware! Hudson Nico skinny tend to run large, so be sure to size down a full size. But hey, at least you'll feel skinny wearing a smaller size. Hudson Nico can be found at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, and Revolve Clothing.

Two is Better Than One

I'm a huge fan of layering jewelry, whether it's bracelets or necklaces. Today, I'm layering two of my favorite necklaces, a short, simple Jennifer Zeuner with House of Harlow 1960 Abalone Sunburst. First, I love a short simple necklace. Every woman needs one as part of her fashion arsenal. It goes great with everything and helps the chest not look too bare without taking the emphasis away from the rest of the outfit. Second, House of Harlow 1960 Abalone Sunburst is a beautiful piece that brings any outfit to the next level. Its subtle colors are brought to life by any solid top, blouse, or sweater. I love how easy it is to take an outfit from drab to fab by just adding something as simple as a necklace. Both brands are available at Southmoonunder.com

Scarf to Brighten Any Outfit

About this time of year, I get tired of the cold. I miss the warmth of summer. However, one great thing about cold weather is that it gives me a great excuse to wear some of my favorite scarves! Not only does it keep me warm, but it also makes any outfit go from boring to amazing! Today, I chose a wonderfully soft knit infinity scarf by Echo. This multicolor scarf is especially great because it goes with so many different shirts and sweaters to create a completely different look each time it's worn. Echo scarves can be found at Nordstrom.com

Sweater Weather

It's cold up here in the DC area! My kids have been off school since last Friday and we are finally getting back to our normal routine. Today I chose to wear one of my favorite sweaters, Free People, Cross My Heart in taupe. I love how cozy it feels without being too hot to wear indoors. It comes in a few other colors and can be found at freepeople.com, macys.com, and bloomingdales.com.

Under a Bridge in Central Park

My hubby and I in the fashion capital of the world... NYC

My First Post

Hi Everyone,

I'm Dawn Purdy and this is my very first post on my very first blog.  I'm not much of a techie, but I thought this might be an easy way to share my thoughts on my favorite subject...fashion!
